Have made a not-no-monumental decision. Will no longer pursue a Minor in English Studies. Seriously asked myself in the shower if I value my CAP more than the four words "Minor in English Studies" that will be in my transcript and nowhere else. The answer turned out to be my CAP.
Does this make me a person who view education as means to an end? I honestly don't know. On one hand, I'm loathe to think that I value my CAP so much to forego reading modules that I am interested in. On another hand, not pursuing the Minor does not mean I cannot take up more modules of the sort - merely that I use my S/U options on them instead.
The problem now is whether to take S/U on African-American lit. a) In a class size of 28, competition is tough, and b) I'm terrible at writing essays during exams. c) Not to mention a certain 8MC module I'm taking that is time and attention draining. So what's the problem in declaring S/U? Three things are stopping me. 1) I might do worse in Philosophy than in lit. Declaring S/U for lit would be a silly mistake then. 2) I might do well in lit. Since I only received an A- for a level one module (after scoring A, A+ for 40% assignments), this is admittedly an off-chance. 3) I might inadvertently put myself out of the running for Dean's List this year, supposing there's a certain criteria that states a certain number of graded MCs per semester. What to do? Getting on it once, however accidentally it might have been, has whetted my appetite.
Sigh. Where's a game theory expert when I need him/ her?
