SOC Prose

Received an email (the third of its kind) today:

------

Dear SoCians,

Due to popular demand we have extended the deadline of the Prose and Poetry Writing Competition to the 15th of April.

The cash prizes are as follows:

1st prize: $50
2nd prize: $30
3rd prize: $20

[truncated]

------

Let me put it gently: "Due to popular demand" fools nobody. Not when: a) the deadline has been extended twice b) the super-coveted top prize is worth only $50 and c) the topic is on wireless computing (scintillating I'm sure) and SOC life (rah rah).

C'mon! Have more exciting topics than that! I have suggestions: "The Passion of the SOCian", "How SOC increased my S.Q*", "What's a Mandelbrot set got to do with Bash?" and "How to keep in shape in SOC".

Poetry? Prose? Computing? What a bunch of oxymorons in a single sentence, haha. Ok no offence.

Lemme try.

"Like how bikinis of today are doing away with strings and leaving nothing to the imagination, computers of today are shedding the age-old reliance on cables."

Errr, how to continue...

Hoi! :)

But I can't really fault you for that, seeing as the faculty wide posters for the event had grammar mistakes all over.

"Lecturers in SOC can now shed their clothes just like how computing has done away with wires!"

Now if that doesn't inspire nightmares I don't know what will.
