About Me

Cap'n Intrepid is wacky (when he's not serious), and highly intelligent (when he's not dumb) and has an astounding talent of pointing out the painfully obvious.

Meaning Shift
Call me dumb, but whenever I read news that the pope has been installed, visions of a destination drive and a completion bar flash in my head.

Blasphemy no doubt.

A quick check with the OED reveals that the top use of install is supposed to be:

To invest with an office or dignity by seating in a stall or official seat, as the choir-stall of a canon in a cathedral, or that of a Knight of the Garter or Bath in the chapel of his order, the throne of a bishop, etc. Hence, To instate in an office, rank, etc. with the customary ceremonies or formalities. Often with complemental extension. [OED Online]

Right. This is why I doubt that OED is The Definitive Record of the English Language, if there is such a thing in the first place.

erm, by definition, i think all non-catholics are going to "hell", so it's all right. in a weird way.

NUS handles the subscription to OED, so I'm using it until I graduate. Must make the most of my school fees. squeeze them dry dry.

Hah, that's what i always use to dispute their incessant "holy" rhetoric. It's like the mob man. "Join or die, buster!" Well, no dice. Ain't no way my soul's gonna be extorted.
(Just in case, you think they will slip me pass the pearly gates for the fact that I attended CJC for 1year&9months? :D)

Hmm, is it applicable to all NUS students? My bro's entering soon, so maybe I will be able to use it too? Woohoo!

Yep it is! You'll need to get his NUSNET id and passwd though (you didn't hear that here and I didn't just say that - password sharing is bad and unforgiveable!)

CJC is the JC with the highest pregnancy rate? Or is that abortion? Heh heh heh. Don't think the Pope will approve..
